As an effort to beautify the Peace Bridge and surrounding neighborhood, project called “Bridge in Bloom” was developed. This included two weeks of design and preparation of 800 feet of planting beds. The design created a graceful planting with continuous blooms from April through July. Through a zone and grid system, the complex planting was broken down to a manageable scale. In a 3 hour effort, employees and friends of the bridge planted all 10,500 flower bulbs. The following spring, a second phase added shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses for a year-round effect. After five years, the installation continues to beautify the neighborhood.
