Nichols Science Building Concept Design
Buffalo, NY Architect: Architectural Resources The addition of a new science building on the Nichols campus required some major site upgrades including relocating the athletic fields and parking areas on campus. The location for the science building itself provided opportunities to not only expand the campus northward, but to better link the existing buildings on campus and make accessibility improvements as well. As this was a science building, the intention of this concept plan was to include as many science and math demonstration areas in the landscape as possible. A storm water collection area and demonstration area act as the bridge to the western edge of the existing campus, while a spine path system links to the east and south. Several outdoor classroom areas are formed along the spine, with activity areas for both large and small groups. A selection of native plants and large specimen trees were introduced as a means to connect the campus to the adjacent Olmsted Park. |
