New York State Parks;
Midway State Park

Master planning process
Watts Architects and Engineers

“Located on the shores of beautiful Chautauqua Lake, Midway State Park is a family treasure. Originally established in 1898 as a trolley park, Midway State Park is one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the nation.”

The master plan looks to celebrate the two significant time periods of the park, the first being the trolley park with a strong focus on the lake, and the second being the “amusement” era of the 1930-1940s. Separating vehicular and pedestrian traffic, enlarging the picnic area, restoring the shoreline vegetation, and creating an entry sequence that speaks to the unique qualities of Midway were all important considerations in this master plan.
