The development of a community residence home in Dunkirk provided the opportunity to create an outdoor living area for 12 residents along with their friends and family. Our goal was to create a variety of seating opportunities, dining areas, and gardening spaces that would allow residents to have private as well as community spaces outside.

By introducing level changes to the patio area we were able to create separation of spaces, as well as much needed interest elements. Paving treatments and materials change as well, also adding to the interest. An upper wooden dining deck overlooks the expansive yard. The area directly adjacent to the interior doors allows for outdoor cooking and small dining areas. The lower patio can be accessed by a ramping walk or a set of stairs. This area is primarily for small group or individual seating areas and is adjacent to the vegetable and herb garden.
